Celebrating the Olympics in style and heart

Yes, the approx. two weeks that we all look forward to for four years have arrived - the two weeks that we sit, watch, envy, and cheer on people of godlike talents (and bodies) compete in the Olympics. The Meré, very fortunately, is actually cheering on Team USA at London, in-person, thanks to a special friend of ours.

These colorful bracelets are stylishly in spirit of this great event celebrating the greatness of countries all over the world, of course. But it does much more:
These bracelets, carried by Peace Bomb, in forms beyond the Continents Series celebrating the Olympics, represents the "deconstruction and reconstruction" of a nation - Laos. In the "Secret War", a war that was waged at the same time period as the Vietnam War, Laos was heavily bombed that leaves it as the most heavily bombed country/capita in history. The country is still affected by the bombs, much of which is left unexploded all over the country.

In an effort to relieve Laos of the widely unknown tragedy, Project Peacebomb was launched as a collaborative effort between various organizations to provide a sustainable business to provide relief in every stage of the project -- the bracelets are made by the local artisans (who are in effect, paid more than four times the local rate), money is reintroduced to the community as micro loans for efforts to advance the local community, 25% of profits are used directly to help clear land of bombs... the list goes on. What better way to celebrate the Olympics and root for your team (continent)?

Take a look at this articulate short documentary that explains the history and the mission of the PeaceBomb much better than any article could :

Always looking into the meré (and goooooo USA!)
xx
