Macarons: try 1

Two weeks ago, my roommate and I rendezvoused at the Plaza Food Hall for a quick lunch. I noticed that many of the dessert carts offered macarons- the French pastry that, out of intimidation, I have never attempted to bake. My friend helped me get over my fear of the macaron today, by walking me through baking a batch of them.


After an hour-and-half of meticulous measuring, mixing, folding, baking, and piping, 27 delicious little button-sized chocolate macarons emerged from my oven. The verdict? There are about a dozen without cracks, and with perfect little feet! A little dry, but overall, not bad for my first try.
